The green, green fake grass of home – Town Grass Blog
Nice to see earlier in the year that a writer in the Telegraph (Judith Woods) has gone for an artificial grass garden. She commented on how great it was for children and pets, how low maintenance it was, and how much more her family have used the garden since they had an artificial grass lawn installed. Various quotes from her article include “At my lawn-warming party, everyone took their shoes off without even being asked and gasped in amazement at the luxuriant softness; it wasn’t bristly, it wasn’t even plasticy, in fact it felt deceptively like real grass” and “When everyone’s tucked up in bed at night, I creep down, turn on the kitchen light and admire it. In the mornings, waiting for the kettle to boil, I smile at it.”
We agreed entirely with her praise and optimism for artificial grass.. until she revealed that she spent £29.99 a square metre for her lawn and then had’ “sand laid down on top to keep it weighed down.” Alas, she should have gone to Town Grass. She would have saved half her money, and we would not have spread sand all over her nice new lawn.
Our artificial grass is superior to most on the market – we do not put sand in it to ‘weigh it down.’ Our grasses are designed to be a realistic imitation of natural grass, not to mention the difference in price. Thankfully, our customers are discerning people.
Weather Warning for Oxfordshire
Gardens across Oxfordshire are being destroyed by torrential rainfall. The grass is sodden and every footstep turns to mud. The mud is brought into the house, the lawn is unusable and the damage lasts into the summer. Now you need to think about re-seeding, mowing and tidying.
An artificial grass lawn is designed to take the stress out of garden living – an artificial grass lawn stays in season, stays tidy and free of mu; always green, always clean. And… just to coincide with this fowl weather, we have launched a new product. Meadow grass is soft but durable, high quality but affordable. It is a great grass product and is ready to go.
Our website allows you to purchase artificial grass directly online. Once ordered it will arrive to your door. For the DIY enthusiasts, we offer complete instructions for installation. Alternatively, we can do the installation for you.
Don’t let your garden be defeated by the weather. Have a look at artificial grass for your garden.

3 Artificial Grass Myths Debunked
It looks Fake!
Artificial grass has come a long way since its advent in the 60s. While it may conjure up visions of a tacky, tinselly lawn, these days, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Welcome to the new Millennium, fake grass is now virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. Weaving techniques are much more advanced due to improved technology and two-toned yarns are produced for a more natural look and feel. Why not order free a sample of our Emerald grass and see if you can tell the difference?
It’s Hard to Fit
As long as you follow the instructions it couldn’t be easier to install artificial grass. Besides, if you buy from a reputable company, they’ll offer all the help you need. Towngrass will assist you until your 100% happy with your new lawn. Just as with other projects, it’s all in the preparation. Get this right and it’s extremely unlikely you’ll have any issues.
Our artificial grass can be installed on any surface but you’ll need to prepare the area first. For an existing lawn, you’ll need to strip the turf and create a level base. Spray weed killer if you’re installing on a stone base. For concrete, decking, tarmac etc., you simply remove debris and glue it on. While you can install immediately on any surface, a sand infill is recommended if the area has no edges/kerbs, the weight of it helps to keep the carpet in place.
It Doesn’t Last
On the contrary, advanced techniques have made fake grass virtually indestructible. With heavy duty backing, dense stitching, durable polyethalene monofilament fibres and UV stabilizers, a good quality grass will stand the test of time. As long as it’s well maintained, you should get over 20 years use. At Towngrass, we’re so confident in our artificial grass products that we offer a full 5 year guarantee.
7 Alternative Uses for Imitation Grass
Imitation grass is most often used as a lawn alternative to the real thing. Users enjoy virtually no maintenance and boast well-kept, lush green lawns all year round. However, artificial grass is installed for many other reasons, here are 7 alternative uses.
Kids Play Area
If you have young children that are destroying your lawn with ball games and swing-sets, imitation grass is the answer to your problems. Not only does it mean a beautiful garden but it’s safe and made especially for high intensity play. It’s often adopted for use on commercial play areas. The landscape remains attractive, there’s no maintenance to pay for and combined with a sand infill provides extra cushioning for safer play.
Dog Friendly Zone
If dogs are part of your family, you’ll be familiar with the devastating effect they can have on your lawn. Imitation surfaces are perfect for animals to play on and any mess hygienically washes away, without leaving any discolouration or odours.
Pool or Spa Surround
Mud is a nightmare for pool and spa owners, pool/spa surrounds are constantly wet. After a relaxing swim or soak, trampling through muddy grass is not pleasant. Neither is climbing out onto concrete. Therefore, many choose imitation grass which is far more practical and fits in perfectly with the landscape.
Roof-top Garden
It’s extremely easy to install fake grass on a concrete or stone surface. City dwellers who crave the look and feel of a lawn install it on their patios, roof-tops, terraces and balconies for an instant garden.
Outdoor Rug
Rugs give stylish finish to any outdoor space; they look great on patios and terrace, under dining sets or lounge furniture. Imitation grass is the perfect material for this; it’s soft, waterproof, wipes clean and is available in many different colours.
Indoor Floor Covering
Use it as carpeting for a quirky interior design theme. It’s also a practical alternative for kid’s bedrooms (no stains), indoor gyms or spa rooms.
Events
Use imitation grass at trade events for creating an outdoor display or as flooring for your designated space. You can show off outdoor products in a natural setting or provide a stylish seating area to talk business.
