If you are reading this, it is likely that you typed in ‘artificial grass for offices’ – or something similar – and were looking for some quick answers: so let us get straight to the point.

Question 1: Is it possible?

Absolutely. Artificial grass is an extremely malleable surface; we can lay it on concrete, EPDM, wood, stone, indoor carpet, metal; anything, really. We can cut it to fit any shape; around radiators, pillars and fixed furniture. And, crucially, we can put furniture on top of it: tables, chairs, desks, cabinets, and benches.

Question 2: Is it practical?

The only problem you are likely to encounter is that wheeled office chairs will not roll across it as easily as they would a flat surface. This is hardly surprising. The artificial grass carpet is otherwise great for use in offices: it is hard-wearing, easily cleaned, and low maintenance.

Question 3: How do you clean it?

Vacuum cleaner, wet cloth, dry cloth, mop, brush, broom, scourer, soap, washing-up liquid. Just not bleach.

Question 4: How do you install it?

This depends on the surface. Recent installations of ours have included nailing it to a wooden floor, sticking it with an adhesive to a concrete floor, stapling it to an existing indoor carpet, and in one case, where the office was rented and so the existing indoor carpet could not be touched or scarred, just loose laid with a double-sided tape at the corners.

To kick things off, we like to answer a few preliminary questions in order to demonstrate the flexibility and value-for-money offered by artificial grass: and to show off our skills in installing it!

Question 1: What are the benefits?

Safe, Clean, Cheap, Quick. In that order. Artificial grass is a surface that drains freely, provides a soft landing (especially when we install a shockpad underneath) is non-toxic, and is easily cleaned and maintained. It is clean in that children can go out and play football on it, roll around, generally have fun and yet do not stain their clothes or bring mud back into the classroom. It is cheap because a single installation requires little maintenance; there is no mowing, watering, or re-seeding required, and repairs are very easy to make should they be needed. Finally, it is quick. An installation can often be done in one day: even large areas with play apparatus can be done in less than week.

Question 2: Are there different grass types? If so, which is best?

Yes there are different grass types and some will be more suitable than others depending on the purpose of an installation. If the play area is to be used for sports as well as play, if it is liely to incur heavy usage, if it is for older children as well as youngsters, then an ‘infilled’ surface is probably recommended. An ‘infilled’ surface is one where a layer of sand (or sometimes rubber for the more serious, 3G sports surfaces) is introduced into the artificial grass to lend it stability and protection form users.

If the surface is just to be used as a ‘break-time’ play area, especially for younger children, then a non-infilled grass type will be fine. These are generally softer to the touch and more realistic looking.

How easy is it to install artificial grass on a balcony?

Very easy, and very quick. We can fit the artificial grass to almost all outdoor surfaces. For balconies and roof terraces, this is likely to include tanalised timber or hardwood, concrete, metal, ceramic tiles, sometimes brick, sometimes a rubberised surface, or bitumen felt. Each surface will require its own installation process but generally speaking we would either tack it with galvanised nails or stick it using an adhesive.

How quickly can it be done?

In terms of installation, the majority of balconies, roof gardens, and terraces can be fitted in one day by one of our teams. In terms of turnaround, the grass will usually take 3 – 5 days to be produced and we aim to arrive and install as quickly as possible.

Which type of artificial grass is best for balconies or terraces?

This is up to you, and depends on your preferences. If you want a soft and realistic-looking grass, we would recommend one of our luxury grass types – either Emerald or Ascot. However, if you want an artificial grass roof on a budget, then Meadow might be better. Alternatively, if you just wanted a very durable, all-weather, out-door carpet, then we would recommend our Retro grass. Is it ‘user-friendly’ ; how do you clean it?

Yes it is very user-friendly. Don’t worry about spilt drinks or rain or dirt. Artificial grass is very easy to clean, and is very hard wearing for high foot-fall areas. The grass can be cleaned with a sponge or mop or cloth or even a vacuum cleaner. Washing-up liquid can also be used, but not bleach.
